We sat down with Jesse Adametz, manager, site reliability engineering to ask about his experiences at Invoca. From what keeps him excited Monday-Friday to his favorite things about working with his team, here’s what Jesse loves about working at Invoca:

What do you do at Invoca (what are your title, team, and big responsibilities)?

My role at Invoca is Manager, Site Reliability Engineering. I manage the SRE team where we’re responsible for all of Invoca’s telephony and web infrastructure. As a result, I have the pleasure of recruiting and retaining incredible talent that interfaces with many departments throughout the company including InfoSec, Production Support, Development, and other non-engineering departments. I also actively participate in ensuring Continuous Improvement throughout the company and support all DevOps initiatives.

What brought you to Invoca?

I came to Invoca originally because of the technology. Building and running real-time applications is a challenge and an incredibly interesting problem; I wanted to be part of a team that supported that. Since joining Invoca I’ve moved into a management role and I now spend my time being interested in human complexities that arise when building and scaling a SaaS company. Empowerment of our employees through autonomy and trust are two requirements for both, and that’s why I stay at Invoca!

What’s your proudest moment so far?

We recently finished a huge technology transformation, migrating a majority of our cloud applications to a technology called Kubernetes. If I had to pick a single reason for coming to Invoca originally, it’s that I was going to get the opportunity to work on that project, which I’d been wanting to do for a few years at that point. Calling it “done” and getting to talk about it is something that I think will feel good for a long time.

What’s your favorite Invoca company event?

I’d have to call a tie for my favorite Invoca company event. Our annual Company Kickoff is one of the best times of the year because it allows for an unparalleled level of socialization and transparency across departments and lets us celebrate our huge accomplishments as one big team. My other favorite event is our holiday party, because it’s the holidays!

What is one fun fact about yourself?

Professionally: I’ve held a number of progressingly different engineering roles in my career starting with Database Development, then Data Engineering, Cloud Operations, and now management, all without a Computer Science degree. I think that’s important for people to know (in the right context) because it shows that different paths can be walked in our industry and the education that precedes it. I have a degree in Management Information Systems and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else.

Personally: My wife and I have a 5 and 8 year old cat and dog respectively, who get along about as well as they do in most cartoons. We’ve infamously kept them separated by a baby gate since moving in with each other a few years ago.
